Before we dive in, lets clear something up—I know people connect with God in different ways and different names. Whether you say Yahweh, The Most High, or something else, this space is open to all. No matter what, one thing remains true: God’s love always comes through (unlike that text you’re still waiting on). sips tea ☕ tries not to spill ☕ but lets be real…😂
Okay, I know what you may be thinking. No, I am not going to spend the next few minutes preaching cheesy self love quotes that you may be tired of because of Valentines Day. Today we are talking about L-O-V-E and it just so happens to match the "theme" of February 14th. Cues a rabbit hole of diving into the history of V-Day but we will save that for another day.
Valentine's day can bring up a lot of emotions, whether you're in a relationship or not. It's a annual reminder that some people are getting showered with roses and others are just hoping for a text back. But before you start contemplating texting your toxic ex, or a situationship to fill a temporary void, lets reframe this day into something worth celebrating: YOU and your joy. Love isn’t just something you give—it’s something you are. The way you speak to yourself, care for yourself, and honor your own worth shapes the love you’re able to share with others. When you pour into yourself, love stops being a transaction and becomes a way of being.
Redefine the Day: Love Is Bigger Than a Relationship
First things first: you are already deeply loved. Before you even think about feeling left out, remember that your worth has never been tied to a relationship status. You didn't go through an entire birth to arrive on Earth JUST to be a romantic partner—you’re here for so much more.
So instead of waiting for someone to make this day or any day special, take the reins. Romantic love is just one kind of love. What about the love you have for your friends, your family, your passions, and yourself? That all counts. So go ahead—if we must consistently acknowledge V-Day, reclaim it as a day of joy, gratitude, and celebration.
Psalm 136:26 says, "Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever." That means forever-ever—not just when you're in a relationship, not just when you feel worthy, but always. In modern day slang, this means you already have a love that never goes ghost in case you needed a reminder.
Build a Self-Care Sanctuary (Because Your Well-Being Matters)
Your space? Sacred. Your energy? Precious. So why not use this day to treat yourself like royalty?
🕯️ Light some candles.
📖 Read something that feeds your mind and spirit.
🛁 Run that bubble bath like you’re filming a self-care commercial.
🎶 Play your favorite music—whether that’s soulful jazz, affirmations, or your “driving through Atlanta on I-75” playlist. That was a very niche specific reference so if you got it, please let me know.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to slow down and give yourself the care you deserve.
Connect with your people
Valentine’s Day can make you feel like the only single Pringle in a bag of lovebirds, but romantic love is just one flavor of kool-aid. You know that friend who sends you unhinged voice notes? The family member you speak to when you're feeling down? Or what about the co worker that keeps you afloat when back to back meetings have you exhausted on all levels. Love shows up in those kind of connections as well. We often overlook that because we over emphasize the need for romantic partnership and undervalue our platonic or community connections. This isn't to bash romance by the way. This post is to simply offer a new perspective on how we view love when it feels like its hard to come by. Where attention goes, energy flows. So if your attention is set on something that may not have physically manifested itself yet, you may be missing out on what you already do have. That deserves your time and appreciation as well.
Try Something New
If your only Valentine's Day plan was to scroll on Instagram and pretend you don’t care, switch it up! You were not born just to work, pay bills, and scroll your life away on social media (even though that mundane routine can become very familiar) We were created to live, create, and find joy in the little things.
🎨 Take a dance class, even if you have two left feet.
🍳 Cook something amazing—bonus points if its something you've never done before.
📝 Start that creative project you’ve been putting off—whether it's writing, painting, or finally organizing those chaotic thoughts in a journal.
🛋 Rearrange your space, try a new hobby, or just do something that makes your soul feel good.
Take A Moment to Pause
If there’s one thing you take away from this, let it be this: you are already deeply, unconditionally loved. Before you were even born, God knew you, chose you, and set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5).
Take a moment to write down:
3 things you love about yourself.
3 ways God has shown up in your life.
3 things you’re excited for in this present moment.
God’s plans for you go beyond any man made holiday. So whether you’re single, dating, or still figuring it out, know this: you are love. You don't need to earn it, you embody it. So my dear...how are you going to embody yourself differently this year?
With love,
MaKayla *is always* Wright <3
I love when you said overemphasizing romantic relationships & devaluing the platonic ones. That was a word!
